The Belize Premier Football League commenced its competition on April 18 and 19, 2009. There are twelve teams in this tournament.
The first game in the 2009 Belize Premier Football League Championship series was played on Sunday July 12, at the Norman Broaster Stadium in San Ignacio Town, between Nizhee Corozal and Hankook Verdes.
Nizhee Corozal gave up home field advantage in game one and decided to travel to San Ignacio for this match up with Hankook Verdes.
The home team Hankook Verdes got on the scoreboard first when Daniel Jimenez scored the only goal of the game in the 25th minute of play to give his team the victory. From that point of the game, the Hankook Verdes defence played superb ball and would not give up anything to the Nizhee offence.
At the sound of the long whistle it was a 1-0 victory for the Hankook Verdes squad.
The second and final game in the championship will be played on Sunday July 19, at the Ricalde Stadium in Corozal Town. Hankook Verdes goes into the final game as the favourites.
